Another long day in the saddle, had a 15-20 mph wind from the South which felt more like a headwind, lucky the terrain was mostly flat balancing out the ride.  The heat did take its toll on me body as the day wore on and I was glad to be done by 4:00 PM.  I was the last of the geezers to finish.  None of the youngsters arrived until about 7:30 as they found a swimming pool in Buhler to cool off in the midday heat.  Not a bad idea considering it was

Speaking of Buhler I had the opportunity to eat lunch there and discovered in the downtown business district, Main Street south of the Trans Am route by about 8 blocks.  Cindy’s Musterseed Deli is top shelf with gourmet breads, meats and cheeses.   I had a Tuna salad sandwich and it was delicious.  They were also kind enough to fill my water
bottle and hydration pack with ice and water.   This is worth the 8 block detour from the Trans Am to dine here.  Not to mention there was nowhere else to stop with 15 miles in either direction.

We old folks having scoped out the city park in Nickerson decided it was not where we wanted to stay this night considering we roughed it a little too much last night.  Mark was visiting with the city librarian and learned there might be a possibility we could stay at the Senior Center a few doors down.  The contact person for the Senior Center June Gladden turned out to be yet another “Road Angel” for us.  She agreed to allow us to stay in the air-conditioned Senior Center. In addition, she invited the six oldsters into her home to take showers.  We learned from her grandson who is living with her that June has hosted over 60 Foreign Exchange students over the years.  June you are now on my “A” list of Road Angels.  A couple hours later another lady stuck her head in the door of the Senior Center and asked if we were going to be allowed to stay there overnight which I told her yes.  She then said if we had the need we could stay at the United Methodist Church across the Street.  I thanked her for the offer and told her this was an annual event and I would share that knowledge with Pepper our group leader for next year.  The lady advised me to just have Pepper contact June and she could make the arrangements for us with the church.  Pepper you can contact June Gladden at P O Box 213, Nickerson, KS 67561.  This information is presented here in case any other charitable group needs accommodations in Nickerson one day.
